SUSTAINABILITY AND CLIMATE CHANGE

Policy 123: Sustainable Design and Construction

The development is fully committed to sustainable design principles in line with Policy 123. The proposal incorporates energy-efficient measures, sustainable building materials, and water management strategies. The overall design reflects best practices in sustainable construction and aligns with the overarching principles of the Bromley Local Plan

Landscaping

We’re introducing a range of landscaping and ecological features designed to enhance biodiversity, support wildlife, and improve the overall experience for pedestrians and the local community. These include;

  • A soft landscape strip along Farwig Lane to create a greener, more attractive street scene.
  • New tree planting to the south, along the boundary with Hammelton Road, to strengthen green buffers and support local wildlife.
  • Enhanced soft landscaping throughout the site to soften hard surfaces and improve the pedestrian experience.
  • Green roofs that encourage biodiversity, create valuable new habitats, and support sustainable urban drainage.

Sustainability

Sustainability is a core principle guiding every aspect of this development, from design and construction to long-term operation. Our approach focuses on reducing carbon emissions across the board: embodied, operational, and transport-related. We're proud to be targeting a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating. This means this will be one of the most sustainable developments in London - only 10% of new buildings in the UK reach this standard currently. We’re taking real, measurable steps to ensure this is one of the most environmentally responsible industrial developments in Bromley.

Supporting low-carbon travel

We’re also making it easier to choose greener ways to travel, with:

  • Secure cycle parking for workers and visitors
  • Electric vehicle charging points to support the transition to cleaner transport
